With my Visa application nearly complete, my next big hurdle is deciding what to take with me, what to keep in storage, and what it’s time to part with.
Among the things I’ve realized it makes no sense to hold onto are stacks of old CDs and DVDs. I almost exclusively listen to music on my iPod and watch movies on my computer; and, I don’t see that changing until the next great breakthrough in multimedia technology. These products are no longer relevant for me, but that isn’t true for many others; the boombox is alive and well.
Throughout high school a lot of my disposable income was spent on punk and rock CDs that I treasured, listening to over and over again. The thought of just giving them away pulls at my heartstrings a little bit.
As if by fate, I recently received an e-mail about a web site called musicMagpie.com that was designed to deal with just such a situation.
The site has a valuation calculator where you type in the barcode of the used CDs, DVDs, and video games that you’re looking to sell (you need to have at least 10). It will automatically generate a buying price and you can choose to complete the trade.
It’s free to mail-in your stuff and the site e-mails you shipping labels right away. Afterwards, it’s simply a matter of taking your package to the post office and waiting for your cheque to come in the mail.
Isn’t that great?
But, there is a catch: this service isn’t available in Canada yet. So, I won’t be able to take advantage of this fantastic service, but in sharing my own journey online, I’ve heard from quite a few of you who are also venturing into expatdom. I thought this might be a great option for those of you in the US, UK, and Germany.
Regardless of whether you’re moving across the world or just trying to declutter your space, musicMagpie.com lets you make some extra money off of something that would otherwise be sitting around collecting dust.
Do you have extra CDs lying around that you’d like to get rid of? Will you consider trying out musicMagpie.com?
